VertexAI: Singapore's Vertical AI Pioneer Redefining Industry-Specific Intelligence
Date: March 29, 2026
Singapore's AI ecosystem continues to mature with innovative startups tackling industry-specific challenges. VertexAI, a Singapore-based AI company founded in 2024 and headquartered at the JTC Innovation@One-North hub, is making waves by focusing on what it calls "vertical AI" — deeply specialised artificial intelligence solutions tailored for specific industries rather than general-purpose AI.
The Problem: One-Size-Fits-All AI Falls Short
While general-purpose AI models have grabbed headlines, many industries struggle to adopt them effectively. A logistics company needs AI that understands shipping routes, customs procedures, and warehouse dynamics. A hospital needs AI that grasps medical workflows, patient privacy requirements, and clinical decision-making. Generic AI assistants, no matter how powerful, often fail at the specialised nuances of these industries.
"We realized that the real value of AI isn't in building bigger, more general models — it's in creating AI that truly understands the specific context of each industry," explained Dr. Rachel Chen, VertexAI's co-founder and CEO, who previously led AI research at a major Singapore hospital group. "Our competitors are building AI that can do almost anything. We're building AI that does the right thing for each specific sector."
Industry-Specific AI Solutions
VertexAI's approach centers on building AI models pre-trained on industry-specific data, then fine-tuning them with proprietary datasets from client organisations. The company currently offers three main vertical AI solutions:
VertexAI Manufacturing
For the manufacturing sector, VertexAI provides predictive maintenance, quality control, and production optimisation. Their AI analyses sensor data from machinery, identifies patterns that precede equipment failures, and recommends preventive maintenance schedules. A major electronics manufacturer in Jurong reported a 34% reduction in unplanned downtime after implementing VertexAI Manufacturing.
VertexAI Logistics
Singapore's position as a major shipping hub makes logistics AI particularly valuable. VertexAI Logistics focuses on freight optimisation, inventory prediction, and supply chain risk assessment. The system analyses shipping routes, port congestion data, weather patterns, and geopolitical factors to recommend optimal routing and timing decisions.
VertexAI Healthcare
PerhapsVertexAI's most sensitive vertical, Healthcare AI assists with clinical documentation, medical coding, and administrative workflow automation. Importantly, VertexAI emphasises that its healthcare AI is designed to assist rather than replace human clinicians — it handles routine administrative tasks, allowing doctors and nurses to focus more on patient care.
Why Singapore?
VertexAI's choice of Singapore as its base reflects the city-state's unique advantages for AI deployment. "Singapore offers access to world-class hospitals, major logistics companies, and manufacturing facilities — all within a small geographic area," said Dr. Chen. "This density makes it easier to develop, test, and iterate on our vertical AI solutions."
The company has raised S$15 million in Series A funding led by Singapore-based venture capital firm NSG Ventures, with participation from global logistics giant DHL's venture arm. The funding will be used to expand into additional verticals including construction and retail.
The Road Ahead
VertexAI's ambitious expansion plans include establishing partnerships with three more Singapore hospitals and two major logistics companies by the end of 2026. The company is also developing what it calls "AI Model Transfer" technology — allowing clients to move their trained AI models between different regions while maintaining compliance with local data protection regulations.
As Singapore continues positioning itself as Southeast Asia's AI hub, companies like VertexAI demonstrate that the future of AI adoption may lie not in building ever-more-general systems, but in creating deeply-specialised intelligence that speaks the language of each industry.
